Learn about the processes behind the different types of organ transplants and whole body donations.
Deceased donor organ transplants
Despite continuous medical efforts and maximal support, a patient may still suffer complete and irreversible loss of brain function. Organ donation is only considered after efforts to save the patient are futile.
Living donor organ transplants
Anyone can donate a kidney or a liver to a person with organ failure. They go through extensive review to ensure suitability before the transplant.
Whole body donation
Whole body donors, also known as Silent Mentors, provide medical students and doctors the opportunity to study the anatomy of the human body and to trial new life-saving medical and surgical procedures and techniques.
